A Place in the Isto
Words and Music by Christopher White

One day I was outside, when it started to rain.
A family of mice built their home in my brain.
I never noticed them climbing through my ear,
But soon after that, I found it hard to hear.

I went to the doctor, so he could check it out.
He took a tongue depresser, and poked it all about.
Then he looked in my ear with a lighting device,
And he said, "Just as I thought... you've got mice."

I said, "Doc, you're telling me that there are mice inside my head????"
He said, "Yep, and they've got furniture: some chairs and a bed.
They look pretty cozy in their little den,
And one of them is reading Of Mice and Men."

After the doctor finished his description,
He took a piece of paper, and wrote out a prescription.
He said, "Here, take this to the local exterminator."
Then he gave me two pills, and said, "You might wanna take these later."

I went to the exterminator right from there.
I was about to tell him all about my sad affair.
I said, "Sir, I have come here on the doctor's good advice."
Then he said, "Wait, don't tell me... you've got mice."

I said, "Yes, you are right. That is exactly true.
How did you know? Did someone tell you?"
He said, "No, we've just had lots of folks coming in here lately wheezin'
With the mice, and after all, it is mice season."

Then the exterminator picked a luger up,
Which he pointed at my head like I was a sickly pup.
Then he said, "Be very still; do not twitch about,
Or I might accidentally blow your brains out."

Then he started talking about a rabbit farm,
Where he and the mice would never come to harm.
I asked him why he spoke like this to the rodents by my brain,
and he said, "We always do in mice this way, because it is humane."

Then there was a pistol shot which left the mice all dead,
But the echoes kept on ringing up and down in my head.
So I took the pills that the doc had given me,
Then I went on my way, feeling empty.
